We have been to many wine tastings at well-known and famous wineries nearby, such as Cantine Benvenuto and Statti, but it has been rumores that there is a small unknown winery closer to Zambrone.
We decided to investigate and found out that there is something interesting in Porto Salvo, just 11 km from the apartment. Directions to Artese We found a grocery store with a special selection of wines. When we asked if it was possible to try wines, we were directed to the back of the store. You had to go back about 50 meters along the street and down behind the store. There really was a small vineyard and it was possible book an appointment for wine tasting in the morning around 11 o’clock or in the late afternoon. We chose a morning because the appetizers with wines make a perfect lunch, by the way, the best appetizers we’ve ever had at a wine tasting.
You get to try three wines normally, their best white and red wine and a rosé. The wines are strong and high in alcohol, so three rather large glasses are enough if you have to drive afterwards.
They produce a total of approx. 40,000 bottles of wine per year in the premises, which are very limited in size! The vineyard itself is located in Madama, just one kilometer above our apartment in Zambrone!
Suitable snacks are served in ample quantities with each wine. The food alone should cost more than the entire wine tasting which is 20 Euros.
At the other wine tastings we’ve been to, you’ve had the same snacks for all the wines, but here you get matching food for each wine. Fantastically good food too!
You can do well on this until dinner!
When you get the last red wine, which is very strong, of course the locals think it goes well with Nduja as a snack. Maybe it does, but after that the taste buds don’t work anymore, so lucky that this was the end of the wine tasting!
Definitely the best and most affordable wine tasting we’ve been to, even if the location can’t be compared to the more famous wineries.
