It is of course impossible to claim that you have eaten the world’s best pizza as you cannot taste them all. However, I have eaten pizza at several pizzerias in Naples, with a world champion in Tuscany, Antonio Polzella, and the Swedish Champion in Norrköping. However, nothing can be compared to BOB Alchimia a Spicchi in Montepaone Lido, near Catanzaro, on the eastern side of Calabria on the Ionian Sea. It is around 100 km to Montepaone from Zambrone, but it is worth it!
You can take the opportunity to shop halfway in Lamezia at Due Mari, which is located along the highway. There are shorter routes if you go over the mountains, but it takes considerably longer.
The pizzas are softer than regular Neapolitan pizzas and are served without cutlery under the slogan #mangiamiconlemani “Eat me with your hands”. Only the best ingredients are used, for example “Cipolla di Tropea” and tuna from Callipo i Pizzo.
You order a whole pizza but they are divided into four parts and can easily be folded to be eaten with your hands! The price is around 10 Euro, which must be considered extremely affordable for this kind of quality!
The restaurant not only has normal pizzas, if you can call them that, but also incredibly good dessert pizzas.
We tried pizza with pistachio cream and white chocolate. Fantastic!
Officially, BOB Alchimia a Spicchi is Top 50 in Italy and Top 50 in the world 2023! It has also won a prize for Italy’s best dessert pizza in 2019.

It is almost impossible to reserve a table as the restaurant is so popular, but there is the possibility of Drop-in. You can sit outside, which is no problem in Calabria. However, make sure to be there before 7.30 pm when the restaurant opens!
