Codice Fiscale – Italian social security number

Codice Fiscale, the Italian equivalent of the social security number is required if one is to buy a property in Italy and it is needed for many other things too. The code can be calculated and it goes like this:

The code begins with the first three consonants of the surname (there are exceptions if you have fewer than three)

Then comes the first three consonants of the first name

Year of birth two digits

Month of birth by the letter A..T (!) However, not F, G, I, J, K, N, O and Q, for some reason,

Birthday with two numbers, but for women one should add 40 to the value

Then the code for native town, but if you were born abroad is a table with codes of different countries

In the end, a check digit that is calculated in a very advanced way
